Vogue – Karl Lagerfeld turns his hand to sculpture
Designer, photographer, illustrator and now… sculptor? Karl Lagerfeld has turned his multi-talented hand to sculpture work for his new exhibition, Architectures, to be held at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Paris this fall. The designer has created a collection of functional sculptures, modeled on the aesthetics of antiquity – a period which he particularly admires. Each sculpture from the collection is made of rare Arabescato Fantastico marble, which gives every lamp, table, fountain and mirror a deep, gray-veined appearance. Behind these sculptures is the architect Aline Asmar. Each piece was sculpted, faceted and polished in Italy by local artisans. The result? A delicate balance of timeless aesthetics which plays on classic and modern features.
